Men's Championship — Rafael Nadal def. David Ferrer,

Rafael Nadal won his eighth French Open title by beating David Ferrer, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3, in Paris on Sunday morning. Dominant throughout the match, Nadal cruised on the red clay, becoming the first man ever to capture any of the Grand Slam tournaments eight times when his forehand winner whirred past Ferrer.

Now 59-1 all-time at Roland Garros, Nadal's win was delayed only by a spectator who rushed the court with a lit flare late in the second set. Security quickly ushered away the trespasser.

Women's Championship — Serena Williams def. Maria Sharapova, 6-4, 6-4

Top-seeded Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, on Saturday morning in Paris to win the women's French Open title and her 16th major trophy overall. Williams finished off the over-matched Sharapova with an ace to end the match. Williams' easy win partially made up for her first-round exit in 2012.

Winning her 31st consecutive match this season allowed Williams to capture her second-ever championship on the red clay at Roland Garros. She is 43-2 thus far in 2013.
