An Evening Out With Dan Mortensen
There was a time not so long ago that my husband Brett and I would party like rock stars with actual rock stars!Over the years though, I found that everyday events have become more cumbersome, like staying awake past 9pm on a Saturday night and so on.
This past Saturday night was an exception. My brother invited us to the eleventh annual Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame banquet. To our surprise those on hand included Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Bronc Rider Dan Mortensen and World Champion Bull Rider Larry Mahan.
When I told my husband that my brother Mike and others had bought a table and we were going I received the “do we have too and if so, we won’t be there long” look. He’s odd that way in his rapid decline from youth to middle age.
We were on “Gallagher” time so of course we were late. We sat with the nicest people and shared a meal and a drink or two.
It was a pleasure seeing Senator Conrad Burns who’s birthday just happened to coincided with the event. My good friend county commissioner John Ostlund, and many friends you only see once or twice a year and almost always at a function such as the one Saturday night.
Most importantly, the event brought the best of the best cattlemen, ranchers, farmers and their families to this worthy banquet. I’ll go one better, the “backbone” of this, the greatest state in the union, Montana.
My hat is off, not only to those that put this grand affair together but the men, women and families who attended!
As for my husband, I lost him for twenty minutes or so. It then dawned on me, a silent auction was part of the festivities. By the time I found him it was to late.
This event will be on the top of next years banquets and I hope to see you all there!
