The Band Perry were bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Monday morning (Feb. 27) as they kicked off their week, first by celebrating their recent chart-topping hit, ‘All Your Life.’ The tune, which was penned by two-thirds of new family trio the Henningsens, spent two weeks at No. 1 earlier this month.

The song is the second single from the Perry siblings’ self-titled album to hit No. 1, with the first being Kimberly Perry’s solely-penned and award-winning smash, ‘If I Die Young.’ “[This No. 1 is] just as exciting,” she tells Taste of Country of their latest chart-topping victory. “We love coming to BMI for these sorts of occasions. Each [single] is a different fight, [and] to be No. 1 is really, really special. This will be the final single from this album, so we’re really excited to just kind of wind down the whole process with such a win in this song.”

Clara Henningsen started the song ‘All Your Life’ four years ago when she was just 18, before bringing it to her father, Brian, to finish. When the song landed in the hands of the Band Perry, the sibling trio quickly put the tune on hold and recorded it for their self-titled debut album on Republic Nashville. The song was the follow-up release to ‘You Lie,’ which was also penned by the Henningsens.

Seeing ‘All Your Life’ storm up the country singles chart was mind boggling for the Henningsens, especially Clara. “We got a call from [my brother] Aaron, and he said, ‘Well Clara, congratulations … you have a No. 1 song,’” Clara beams, while remembering how she heard the good news just weeks earlier. “It was just such a shock. It’s like … is this really happening?! I never imagined that this little song that I wrote when I was 18 would ever be a No. 1 song in the nation on country radio.”

After talking with the media, the celebratory party was underway, complete with a full breakfast spread of fruits, pastries, brie and smoked Gouda cheese grits, bacon and white cheddar cheese bread pudding, and sausage, egg and cheese casserole. Brian and Clara Henningsen both received their first official BMI acoustic guitars for their first No. 1 as songwriters, as well as countless other plaques from various industry organizations.
