Veterans Day honors ALL American veterans for their loyal and dedicated service.  The Bataan Death March will live on forever as a historical moment in American history and through “Tears in the Darkness,” a chronicle that exposes Ben Steele’s memories as a prisoner of war in Japan for 1244 days.

The title of the book comes from the Japanese word anrui (on-RUE-ee), which focuses on the kind of pain and sorrow that, literally, cannot be seen.  Steel, a Roundup Native, entered the U.S. Army Air Corps just before his 23rd birthday.  He was immediately shipped to the Philippines where he found himself caught up in one of the first and most protracted land battles of the war in the Pacific as the U.S. and Filipino forces attempted to defend the peninsula of Bataan in the Philippines.
