Billings City Council Approves Million Dollar Bridge from Depot to the Dirty Bookstore

Here’s another example of your tax dollars at work.  Yesterday, the Billings City Council approved a $1.175 million pedestrian bridge that run over the train tracks connecting Minnesota and Montana Avenues at 25th Street.

Nearly $1.2 million to connect the Depot to the dirty bookstore?  Really?  With as many roads that are in disrepair in and around Billings, is this really the best use of taxpayer funds?  Mark and Paul don’t think so.

For starters, there’s not a lot of foot traffic in that area to begin with.  Furthermore, it takes all of 5 minutes to walk over the train tracks.  One major expense for the bridge will be the ramps to help disabled people and bike riders cross the tracks.  Of course, if you have a bike, you could easily just ride over the tracks or, better yet, enjoy a ride on the many miles of bike trails the city has already built.

And, let’s be honest, there’s not a lot of disabled people crossing the tracks on 25th Street.  You might as well build a hydraulic lift so wheelchairs can ride over to the skate park too.
