With only a day until the 47th Annual ACM Awards, the country world is descending upon Las Vegas. Fans are getting ready to be entertained for the weekend; country stars are getting settled and fitted for their awards night attire; and superstar Blake Shelton is getting ready (physically and mentally) for his second year as an ACM co-host with Reba McEntire. Though this is McEntire’s 14th consecutive year and she could do this show in her sleep, Shelton, who will be performing as well, admitted to some nerves.

“Hillbillies have invaded Las Vegas and we don’t know what the hell we’re doing and there will be disasters,” Shelton comically told CBS This Morning. About performing in front of the biggest names in country music, the ‘Honey Bee’ singer conceded, ”It’s … days away, and (I’m) already freaking out.”

If he ever has any questions about hosting, he’ll have McEntire to turn to.

Speaking to his red-headed co-host in the clip below, Shelton came to a sudden realization. Thinking back on last year, he says he thought people just kind of nonchalantly asked McEntire if she’d be cool with him co-hosting. He said, “But now I’m starting to realize — the way they’re asking these questions — you really are like the president of country music, and you make those decisions don’t you?”

Laughing, Reba said “yes” and shook her head “no” all at the same time. With 24 performances and a live onstage wedding all slated to happen during the live awards telecast Sunday night (April 1), the hosts will have a good deal of introductions and segues to make. But McEntire, who knows the ropes of this rodeo quite well by now, says that might just make their job easier.

“We have 24 acts,” she said. “It’s a lot, so that makes Blake Shelton’s and my job a lot easier, so less talk and more music.”

Catch McEntire and Shelton on the ACM Awards live telecast Sunday night on CBS beginning at 8PM ET.
