The Detroit Tigers extended Cy Young and MVP winner Justin Verlander for a record $180 million through 2019. The deal also has a vesting option which could push its value past $202 million. [ESPN]

In another major contract agreement, defending National League MVP and former Rookie of the Year Buster Posey signed a nine-year $167 million deal to remain with the San Francisco Giants.
