C-SPAN Network in Billings
My first thought when I saw the C-SPAN trucks and crew in downtown Billings Monday was, great more national television coverage for Judge Baugh’s 31 day rape sentence.Nope, not this time! C-SPAN normally covers governmental stories around the world but this time they are covering 19 cities in the United States and highlighting their history. It is C-SPAN’s 2013 Cities Tour.
Billings was one of the 19 cities chosen for the feature which will tape this week in the Magic City and air on C-SPAN in October. Six historical sites around Billings will be featured in the piece including the Western Heritage Center, Pictograph State Park, Pompey’s Pillar, Little Bighorn Battlefield, Yellowstone County Museum and Huntley Museum.
Julie Dial is he Executive Director of the Western Heritage Center and C-SPAN will talk on the special about the founder of Billings, Frederick Billings. They will also look at some letters from Parmly Billings that he left here when he visited.
“I think it shows us that we have made a very good choice in where we live. And it shows us that we, everyday, the actions that we make, every single decision that we make does make history. It does make a difference. And here in Billings, we’re the kind of people that gets things done and I think that it’s being recognized on a national level and that is very exciting,” says Dial. “I think that a lot of people will discover nationwide what a great treasure we are and what a great place this is to live.”
The specials will air on the C-SPAN networks beginning October 4th through the 6th with an interview with Mayor Tom Hanel.
