After several energetic performances at the 2013 CMT Music Awards, Darius Rucker brought the crowd to their feet once again with a no-holds-barred rendition of 'Wagon Wheel.'

Although his band took the stage and the audience expected Rucker to do so as well, the renowned country singer kicked off his performance in the crowd, appearing from behind a group of CMT Music Awards attendees with a microphone in his hand. As the fiddler and banjo player laid down the arrangement, Rucker shook hands with fans -- even pausing to kiss Jana Kramer on the cheek -- all while singing the first verse of the song.

Eventually Rucker made it to the stage to sing the first chorus. It's hard to imagine how anyone could be so calm while moving throughout a jam-packed arena, but Rucker was cool as a cucumber as he made his way to the front of the room. He picked up a guitar and started to play while singing the second verse. By the time he reached the second chorus, the crowd got another surprise when Lady Antebellum had walked out to join him on stage.

The popular trio lent their gorgeous harmonies to Rucker for the final lines of the song while the crowd screamed and sang along. Cameras caught several stars on their feet, including Carrie Underwood and her hubby Mike Fisher, Brantley Gilbert, Kramer and Miranda Lambert.

Rucker ended 'Wagon Wheel' by signalling to the band to stop playing and putting his microphone back on the stand. He led the crowd in a few bars of a singalong before pausing and listening to roaring applause. That's a performance that will be hard to beat!
