Family Traditions For The Holidays

To steal a line from the Hank Williams Jr. song, “Family Tradition,” I recently sat and reflected on my own family traditions that I have carried over to my family. With the holidays approaching, I realized that in many ways I have continued the traditions of my parents when it comes to the holidays.
For example:
- At Thanksgiving, we always have turkey.
- At Christmas, we always have ham.
- Our Christmas tree always goes up right after Thanksgiving.
- The tree always comes down right after New Year’s.
Like so many other parents, I’ve continue to put every Christmas ornament that my children made in school on my tree. With each one, I smile and remember how excited they were when they gave it to me. It’s amazing how your Christmas tree can tell so many stories year after year.
On New Year’s Eve, I spend it with family and always toast the New Year with a Tom and Jerry Hot Toddie. As I watch my children grow, I wonder if they will to continue the traditions I have taught them. What holiday traditions have you carried on through your childhood and passed on to your children?
