‘Friday Night Lights’ Movie Officially Dead, Says Peter Berg

Friday Night Lights Movie Dead Peter Berg

Clear eyes and full hearts don’t seem to have done ‘Friday Night Lights‘ fans any good after all, as following endless speculation of a big-screen return for the high school football drama, executive producer Peter Berg has officially given up on a ‘Friday Night Lights’ movie.

“There’s not gonna be a movie. We talked about it, some people thought it was a good idea, some didn’t;”  Berg tells Collider of a long-stalled film. “I’ve come to believe it’s probably not a good idea and I seriously doubt it’s gonna happen.” When last we heard in May, producer Brian Grazer had said that the movie would likely turn to crowd-sourcing both for funding, and as a demonstration of support.

And while in-demand stars like Connie Britton have been vocal about their desire to see a movie happen, fellow ‘Friday Night Lights’ actors Kyle Chandler and Taylor Kitsch have been largely opposed to the idea. Independent of Berg’s interview with Collider, Kitsch recently told Vulture:

I’ll just say no. No, period. I’m not doing it. I’m never gonna be in that movie. There was already a movie! And the show ended f*ckin’ spot-on. We’re good.

Of course, one will recall that ‘Friday Night Light’s had already been in theaters, under the original 2004 incarnation of the franchise that spawned NBC’s eventual TV series in the first place. Still, fans of the series may be disappointed to learn that the Wildcats will stay benched after all.

What say you? Would you have wanted a ‘Friday Night Lights’ movie to get off the ground, or did the show end conclusively enough?
