Mongolian Green Onion Cakes. They are simple but tasty... salty, sweet and spicy! They are like a savory pancake you serve with chili garlic paste and soy sauce.

Here's the recipe:

3 Cups of bread flour
1 and a 1/4 cups of boiling water
1 bunch green onions
vegetable oil
salt
freshly ground black pepper
extra flour
vegetable oil for frying
soy sauce for dipping
garlic chili paste for dipping

Pour the boiling water into the flour and stir with a fork until well combined. Place dough on a floured cutting board and knead until smooth. Then place in a oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let the dough rest for about an hour. To roll the cakes divide the dough into 16 equal pieces and roll into a disc about 1/8" -inch thick with a rolling pin. Brush lightly with vegetable oil, season well with salt and pepper, and sprinkle green onions on one half. Roll the dough up into a cylinder, then into a coil. Then roll out again into a disc approximately 1/8" inch thick adding flour as needed.

Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat and add enough oil to cover the surface. Fry each cake until golden brown, about 1 to 2 minutes. Turn and cook the other side for 1 to 2 minutes longer, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

Cut into wedges and serve immediately with soy sauce and garlic chili paste for dipping.
