After hearing about the Sandy Hook Elementary school shootings, like most parents, my first thoughts were about my daughter and how I could keep her safe. She goes to a school that doesn't have a security system. Before class they gather either outdoors where they all line up (easy targets) or indoors during inclement weather in what is called the Multi-Purpose room. I know these things are isolated incidents and the odds of it happening in any one place are like winning the lottery but it still scares me to death. I wish I could wrap her in bullet-proof material. Furthermore, how do I explain it to her so she won't be scared to go to school? The truth is, even after this incident, it can happen anywhere and short of containing schools behind prison-like walls, there is nothing we can do.
