Ever since I was a kid there has been one particular item on the table at Thanksgiving that I have absolutely hated. That was until this year.

Cranberry sauce. Yuck! My mom used to buy it in a can when I was a kid and just the smell of it was something I would avoid. I remember as she laid it out on the saucer to be served how it still held the shape of the can. It was one of the weirdest most repulsing things I had ever laid my eyes on.

As I grew into adulthood, I quickly learned that this was one of my wife's favorites. Bad news for me. We've been married for 9 years now and it wasn't until this year that I had a change of heart.

My wife refuses to buy it in a can. She prefers to make it from scratch. You would think this would change my point of view but the memory from my childhood wouldn't allow for that.

About a week she decided to do a "test run" on a new batch of cranberry sauce. She made it like normal, however this time she added some mandarin oranges to the batch.

She begged me to try it and I refused. She even brought a bowl to me and sat it in my lap to no avail. That was until I smelled it. The citrus smell sent my nostrils into a positive frenzy.

Much to dismay, I quickly found myself picking up the spoon and nibbling a taste of this strange concoction. The verdict? I loved it!

After 36 years of being on this planet, I have finally grown to love the taste of my wife's cranberry sauce. Either I'm crazy or I'm getting older and need to go find me some new stretchy pants.

Do you make your own cranberry sauce? Do you do it in any special way?
