Ice Jam In Bozeman, Red Cross on Stand-by
Saturday afternoon, December 7th there was reports of homes with flooded out basements! The flooding was not caused by torrential rain but by snow turning into ice, creating an ice jam. The neighborhood affected is the Gallatin Gateway in Bozeman.
In Billings we had our share of flooded out homes this past summer so I’m sure you can relate to what these Bozeman residents are going through. The evacuation of Gallatin Gateway is not mandatory at this time, but a number of people in the neighborhood have chosen to leave on their own.
The Montana Red Cross responds to weather related emergencies around the state. As of now the Red Cross is in “stand-by” mode on the ice jam situation. According to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department there has not been much movement or change in the ice jam since Saturday afternoon.
