The life and legacy of Joey + Rory's Joey Feek was celebrated Sunday afternoon (March 13), by friends and family in her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana. The memorial service was held in the gymnasium of Alexandria-Monroe High School, where Joey graduated in 1994. Fans carried signs with quotes and pictures of Joey and her husband and others held flameless candles, according to US Weekly.

Bill Gaither, a close friend of the Feeks, shared stories of Joey growing up. “She was always excelling at everything she put her mind to and made this town a brighter place with her smile and light,” he said.

After a performance of "Lean on Me," one of Joey's favorite songs, a video tribute with photos of Joey, Rory and Indiana played. The clip includes Joey singing to daughter Indiana, on the farm working and performing with Rory.

Rory Feek and daughter Indiana were in attendance and were presented with Joey's high school varsity letter basketball jacket, which her husband put on at one point. “This is such a special place, with special people, for us all to be in today,” he told the audience. “This is the place that Joey played basketball. She loved playing here. This place taught her a lot of lessons, but what she really lettered in was love.”

At the close of the ceremony, Rory said, “Joey, I’ll see you at the house.”

Joey Feek passed away at the age of 40 on March 4 after her battle with cancer. Over the past several months, Rory kept fans updated on Joey's journey through his blog This Life I Live. Joey was laid to rest last week, and in lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donation to the following address:
