About 6 years ago, a friend of mine in Denver clued me in to the fact that John Denver was going to be inaugurated into the first class of the Colorado Music Hall Of Fame. And she had one extra ticket. i said "I'm there" and went to the show.

The concert/ceremony featured Johns first wife, Annie. As well as Micheal Martin Murphy, John Oates (of Hall & Oates), The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Olivia Newton John, and the songwriters who had written "Grandmas Feather Bed" & "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" (which they performed after telling how the songs came to be).

Lee Ann Womacks version of "Sunshine On My Shoulders" was absolutely breathtaking.

So, the next morning, I thought I'd swing by Aspen and see the John Denver Sanctuary. It's a park in the downtown area that a little stream flows through. And it features about a dozen and a half rocks that have lyrics from his songs carved into them.

If you like his music at all, it's worth the stop. It was not, however, worth the 850 miles that I ended up driving that day, when I made it all the way back to Billings.
