Not many people can recall the exact day of their first date with their significant other, but Kelly Clarkson can. The 'Don't Rush' singer began dating her now-fiance, Brandon Blackstock, the same day as the untimely death of one of her musical idols -- a coincidence that worried the singer from the get-go.

"This is the funniest/worst thing ever: One of my superhero idols is Whitney Houston, and the day she died was our first date," Clarkson reveals of the odd timing (quote via People Magazine). "I was like 'This is a bad omen.' "

What was thought to be a bad omen at the time has appeared to have no effect on the two lovebirds, who announced their engagement in December. "Brandon's the one," shares Clarkson. "I've never been so happy."

She's officially off the market, but the big-voiced singer has made it clear that she does not intend to rush down the aisle with her country music industry executive fiancee.

“He was married for awhile and I come from two broken homes so… my whole thing is I don’t wanna rush into something,” Clarkson says of her cautious crawl towards marriage. “We are very happy in love and we will totally be getting married. But we’re not planning that anytime soon.”

Recently, the songstress revealed that they're eyeing a fall 2013 wedding, and that Blake Shelton will likely play wedding singer.

Timing is everything for Clarkson, who doesn't mind waiting a bit longer to become Mrs. Blackstock. "Six years I was single before this," Clarkson says of her patient search for the perfect man. "I've never been truly loved like I am right now."
