When Kelsea Ballerini took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry back in April, she knew she wanted to bring something unique to her performance. And with her hauntingly beautiful cover of "Ghost in This House," the 22-year-old singer certainly succeeded.

Written by Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Hugh Prestwood, "Ghost in This House" was originally recorded in 1990 by country group Shenadoah; however, the song found new life when Allison Krauss cut it in 1999 for her solo record, Forget About It, and then again in 2002 for a live album with her band, Union Station. Known for popular, upbeat hits such as "Dibs" and "Love Me Like You Mean It," Ballerini showed her more emotionally vulnerable side at the Opry when she performed a stripped-down version of the graceful tune; it was Krauss' simple and breathtaking version of "Ghost in This House" that Ballerini wanted to emulate at the Opry.

"This one caught my heart a long time ago, and this is the first time I've ever sung it," Ballerini told the crowd, adding that she hoped to meet the high standards set by Krauss. "If you mess up Alison Krauss, you're voted off the island. So hopefully I do it justice."

Ballerini is set to kick off her first-ever headlining tour, The First Time Tour, in October. The trek will be full of special guests such as Carly PearceLevi Hummon and Cam -- and hopefully at least a few beautiful covers. The rising star has been keeping herself busy this summer, co-hosting the TV show Greatest Hits with Arsenio Hall and opening up for Rascal Flatts on their summer Rhythm & Roots Tour. Ballerini will also appear on Jason Aldean‘s upcoming album, They Don’t Know, set for release in September, and is working on her sophomore album.
