Kelsea Ballerini shows off her more serious side in the video for her latest song, "Peter Pan."

The song is the third single from her debut full-length album, The First Time, and the 22-year-old shows a new maturity on the track, taking on more serious subject matter than her chart-topping debut single, "Love Me Like You Mean It," or its fun follow-up, "Dibs," which also spent time at No. 1.

The song is about a figurative Peter Pan; a man who loves danger and thrill-seeking as much as he wants to be with the protagonist in the song, which ultimately proves too much to overcome. The video underscores that theme with a spoken-word intro from Ballerini, who says, "He always had to feel ...  the rush, the heartbeat, the speed. He had a passion for things he knew could hurt him. But he never stayed long enough to get hurt. Sometimes, I guess he found that feeling with me. And the other times, he found it being lost."

The new clip pictures the young breakout star with her man in fast cars, on a motorcycle, in a stunt plane and various other thrill-seeking scenarios.

"You're just a lost boy with your head up in the clouds / You're just a lost boy, never keep your feet on the ground," Ballerini sings with a mix of yearning and accusation. "Always wanna fly away / Just because you know you can / Never gonna learn there's no such place as Neverland / You don't understand / You'll never grow up / You're never gonna be a man / Peter Pan."

At the end of the video, Ballerini's reckless love flies away, both figuratively and literally, as his irresponsible ways inevitably pull them apart. Check out the full clip above.
