Kenny Chesney to Release Pink Collab as New Single
The artist announced he will release the song, “Setting the World on Fire," as his second single from Cosmic Hallelujah, a name he recently changed to from the original, Some Town Somewhere. Chesney pushed back the album release primarily to get the pop artist’s contribution onto the record, and ended up changing the title after being inspired by the sound of the album as a whole.
The new single is slated for official release to radio July 28, and promises to be a vivid picture of what it feels like to be on the brink of falling in love — the excitement, the anticipation, the passion, the energy.
"You can’t conjure a song that captures that feeling of being on the brink like this does,” Chesney says in a press release. “The lyrics are a perfect way of saying it, but when you feel that melody rise, the arrangement picking up momentum — it’s bigger than you are, and all you want to do is throw yourself against the night. Then when Pink comes in, well, that just brings this [song] to life."
Chesney adds that the song grabbed him as soon as he heard it, and he knew it was meant for the album.
“With the Spread the Love Tour in full force, I wanted a song that packs all that joy, all that fun, all the energy that love is made of. When I heard ‘Setting the World on Fire,’ I knew it was exactly the song I’d been looking for. Like ‘Somewhere With You,’ there’s an urgency, but this one is ‘in’ the moment — and what a moment it is!” he shares.
Though Chesney is decidedly entrenched in the world of country music, he’s no stranger to cross-genre collaborations, including his past duet partners Dave Matthews, Uncle Kracker, Grace Potter and the Wailers. The artist says that a great song doesn’t have anything to do with genre, and he knew Pink would be a great fit on “Setting the World on Fire."
“To me, great songs are great songs regardless of genre — and the core of being alive is the same no matter where you are,” Chesney says. “That rush of realizing there’s something going on here... You’re really clicking with someone... Or even just one of those perfect nights with your friends, there’s no feeling like it. And I like the idea of Pink with her voice that is so strong and contains so many colors, she really makes that idea of giving into your heart, shouting out the window and whirling around in the middle of an abandoned street feel real.”
Cosmic Hallelujah is slated for release Oct. 28.
