Lee Brice is releasing a new song to iTunes each week before the April 24 release of his new album ‘Hard 2 Love.’ In addition to the Top 5 single ‘A Woman Like You,’ a doleful ballad called ‘I Drive Your Truck’ is now available for purchase.

Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington and Jimmy Yeary co-wrote the new song. It was Harrington who came up with the concept after hearing a radio interview with a family who’d just lost their 18-year-old son in the war. “The interviewer said, ‘How in the world do you deal with that?’” Brice remembers. “And the mother said, ‘We get in his truck and drive it around. We feel like he’s there and it pulls us through.’”

I drive your truck / I roll every window down / And I burn up / Every back road in this town / I find a field I tear it up / ‘Til all the pain’s a cloud of dust / Yeah sometimes I drive your truck,” Brice sings during the chorus.

The singer knew the first time he heard the song that he had to have it. “They played it, and I started losing it in front of everybody. It just killed me. It made me think about my granddaddy and everybody I’d lost.”

Piano drives the song early, before Brice opens up and takes control vocally at the climax. It’s a performance every bit effective as the more subdued ‘A Woman Like You.’
