Little Big Town will perform a free concert at Toby Keith‘s I Love This Bar and Grill in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. on Feb. 6 to benefit the Dogwood Project, a non-profit organization created by the group’s Kimberly Schlapman and her husband, Stephen, following the tragic death of Stephen’s brother, Allen Schlapman.

The concert was originally scheduled for last year, but was canceled following the senseless tragedy that took place over the Thanksgiving holiday. The Schlapmans have been able to cope with their loss through the creation of the Dogwood Project, an effort to comfort young children who are dealing with the death of a parent.

“The Dogwood Project will seek out and reach out to children like my niece and give them what might be their first glimpse of hope after the death and funeral of their loved one,” the LBT singer shares with Taste of Country. “The Dogwood Project stands for comfort and hope and purpose and life.”

The project has focused its efforts in middle Tennessee, but the Schlapmans and their team hope to expand their outreach as donations from compassionate individuals grow in number.

“Ultimately, we hope to expand beyond the initial expression of love and support to help ensure that each and every child has access to grief counseling so that they can learn how to envision and create a future without this person they so loved,” the project’s ambassador reveals.

General admission to the show is free for music fans 21 and up. All cash donations will be donated directly to the Dogwood Project. Fans outside the area can visit the project’s official website to offer a tax-deductible donation online and to learn more about the organization.
