Watch Little Big Town Cover Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’
Little Big Town took a break from country music on Thursday (July 21), if only for one song. The country quartet appeared on the TV show Greatest Hits to cover Oasis' mid-'90s hit "Wonderwall."
"Wonderwall" comes from Oasis' What's the Story Morning Glory album, released in 1995. The song became a massive hit for the Englishmen: In addition to being one of the most covered songs of all time, the tune was also nominated for two Grammys. LBT took the track and made it their own, slightly altering the melody of the verses and lending their signature harmonies to the famous chorus; both of the group's male members, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook, played guitar for the performance. It should come as no surprise that Little Big Town made "Wonderwall" soar. With the recent release of Wanderlust, a new collaborative album with Pharrell Williams, fans know that LBT excel at several different formats, not only country.
“It’s not a country record,” the band’s Karen Fairchild tells Billboard of the new release. “And it’s not like anything we’ve ever done.
“It’s fun to be spontaneous and put it out there to the fans because we want to, and not to overthink it but just because it has brought us a lot of joy, and we think it will for them as well,” she continues. “So why not? We’re going with our gut and putting it out there. It’s just music, you know?”
Kelsea Ballerini is co-hosting Greatest Hits -- an "unscripted singing show" with a focus on hit songs from the 1980s, '90s and '00s, which music icons and popular artists perform -- with Arsenio Hall. Each episode focuses on a five-year time period. The show airs on Thursdays at 9PM ET on ABC.
