Luke Bryan, ‘Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye’ – Song Review

Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye
Capitol Nashville

The four singles released from Luke Bryan‘s ‘Tailgates and Tanlines’ album provide an accurate script for a story about the life of a bachelor. It’s a life that can be a little wild and crazy, but mostly it’s filled with heartache, confusion and regret. ‘Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye’ provides the regret.

But it’s “regret” we’ve heard before. Bryan’s hooky single lacks the heart of Chris Young‘s ‘Tomorrow’ or the risque voyeurism of Lady Antebellum‘s ‘Need You Now.’ It’s got a great hook, and a quirky, memorable lyric but after back-to-back No. 1 hits of a similar groove, it’s wearing a little thin.

Take off your leaving dress / Let’s do what we do best / I guess everybody’s got their way of moving on / Girl rest your head, one more time in my bed / Love me like you loved me when you loved me and you didn’t have to try / Let’s lay down tonight / And kiss tomorrow goodbye,” Bryan sings during the first chorus after beginning the song with:

All we do right is make love / And we both know now that ain’t enough.”

‘Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye’ conjures up a familiar emotion, but it might not be one every fan is eager to relive. ”Baby who we are just didn’t work / But maybe we can leave with something out of all this hurt,” he sings.

This singer has reached one million downloads with five of his last six singles, and ‘Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye’ could become number six of seven. The fourth single from ‘Tailgates and Tanlines’ leaves us looking forward to new music, and a new groove born from the style he created on this breakout album.
