Malamute Dog Shot, Mistaken For Wolf
Some might think it animal cruelty but a Malamute dog was shot and killed on Sunday, November 17 near Lolo Pass. Turns out a hunter was near Lolo Pass outside of Missoula hunting and spotted what he thought was a wolf and open fired, killing the Malamute.
The Missoula County Sheriff have completed their investigation and questioning of the hunter and have ruled the shooting an accident of mistaken identity. The Missoula County Sheriffs office said in a statement,
there was no malicious or purposeful intent by the hunter, who thought he was shooting a wolf-Missoula County Sheriff
The report also concluded that because the animal was not a game animal, Fish Wildlife and Parks has no jurisdiction.
Opinion: I was talking with a co-worker about this incident and she suggested all hunters who take their dogs hunting with them should mark their dog with a colored bandana.
What do you think? Is this kind of accident just part of the territory when hunting or do you have ideas on how to have this not happen again?
