Montana Laws that Make You Go, Huh?

I heard a rumor a short while back about a Montana Law that if true, would make my wife very upset.

The law, as it was told to me was, "No woman will fish alone in the state of Montana."

Well, it was partly right. I looked it up on mt.gov, the state's official website, and the actual law says, "In Montana, it is illegal for married women to go fishing alone on Sundays, and illegal for unmarried women to fish alone at all."

I'd be surprised to see this law enforced in any way, but stranger things have happened.

My wife who is an avid fisherwoman, as evidenced in the photo above, likes fishing so much that there are times she will just go by herself if I am unable to go with her. Her thought was, if she is out there and an officer approaches her, will she go to jail or get a ticket? I told her she most likely wouldn't have anything to worry about.

Just like with any state, if you do a little digging, you will find old laws that seem very strange and outdated. If nothing else, it gives you a nice little chuckle seeing what some of our forefathers thought would be most important at that time.
