It may not seem like a big deal but eating locally grown foods is great for the economy here in Billings because you're supporting local farmers. It's also good for the environment because the food costs less to transport and food this fresh is great for your body.

While I'd love for Montanan's to claim that they want to eat healthier and save the environment, I have a theory as to why we rank so high. Our state is so big and most things are so far away that it makes more sense to consume food that is locally grown. The shipping prices for food we might find in a regular grocery store are nearly the same price.
