Mother and Son Put Live Puppy in Ziploc Bag, Face Extreme Animal Cruelty Charges [PHOTO, VIDEO]
Just when your faith in humanity was restored with the heartwarming story about ‘Batkid’, something like this happens.
A mother and son from Albuquerque, New Mexico decided it would be a good idea to put a live Chihuahua puppy inside of a Ziploc bag and post the photo to Facebook.
Mary Snell and James Engel are now facing felony animal cruelty charges after someone posted the photo to the sheriff department’s Facebook page.
Snell and Engel told police that they put the puppy in the Ziploc bag to show how small it was and that the bag was not sealed. Investigators say sealed bag or not, the puppy could have still suffocated very quickly without the ability to move its head to get to a fresh supply of oxygen.
According to KOAT-TV, the puppy is now safe and with another family member.
Extreme animal cruelty is a fourth-degree felony, which carries a penalty of up to 18 months in prison.
