My Hometown Hero: Rodney Atkins

I'm happy we have some new Rodney Atkins on Cat Country and that he's one of the headliners at this year's Headwaters Country Jam.

Rodney grew up in my hometown of Harrogate, Tennessee. I have vague memories of him playing basketball on our dirt court out in the yard. He went to highschool at Powell Valley High and for a time shared the court with my older brother, Mark. I can remember Mark telling me that the guys would poke fun at Rodney because he would sing loudly in the locker room, sometimes playing his guitar and talking about how he was going to make it in Nashville someday. Well, Rodney got the last laugh and has some great, time tested hits to his credit.

Other than maybe seeing him at some festival when I was a kid, I've never seen him in concert and can't wait to see him tear it up at Headwaters Country Jam this year.
