Did you see Rob O'Neill, the ex Navy SEAL and Butte native who killed Osama Bin Laden, on Fox News last night?  With all due respect for O'Neill's service, the entire interview just rubbed us the wrong way.

O'Neill definitely didn't lack for confidence.  As heroic as this man's actions were, we think he's undermining the integrity of the SEALS.  These guys are a close nit group.  They rely on teamwork to complete their missions.   It just seemed to us like the interview was putting all of the spotlight on one person.

Secrecy is another reason why the SEALS are the most elite fighting force on the planet. They are highly effective, in part, because people don't know what that do.  And there's a code among these brave men.  Even former SEALS don't detail specifics about their training methods, tactical strategy and the tools at their disposal.  If our country's enemies were watching that interview last night, they were able to peek behind the curtain and learn more about how the unit operates. That's a scary thought.

As much as we admire Rob O'Neill's record, we can't support his latest mission.  Every Montanan should be proud of this homegrown hero, but we don't have to agree with him. We're not sure if he was paid by Fox News for this interview, but if he was, it will seriously harm the credibility of his message.  O'Neill claims he's going public to create awareness for the shameful lack of funding and programs for Veterans.  That's a cause everyone should support.  We hope his motives are pure, we just wish he would have handled this situation differently.
