This week's One Line Monday topic was interesting.  Mark and Paul want to know if you tip the maid who cleans your motel or hotel room?

Of course, it's customary to tip the doorman if he carries your bags.  But doesn't the maid deserve a tip more than the doorman?

Most people who called in don't think the maid should be tipped.  One gentleman doesn't even want maids in his room.  He puts up the Do Not Disturb and leaves it up.  Another guy pointed out that since rising wages for employees make rooms more expensive, he doesn't feel obligated to tip.

Paul believes that people should tip the maid under some circumstances.  If you are staying for a week, the maid deserves a tip.  If you party too hard and leave a huge mess, you should tip the maid too.  But if you're only staying one night, there's no need to tip.

Of course, there are many industries where tipping is encouraged, but shouldn't be.  Taxi drivers for example.  If the meter's running, why should you tip those guys?  Same for the guys at the car wash.  If you're going to tip them, they should put some extra wax on for you.

Mark pointed out that airline pilots don't accept tips.  That's one guy he'd be willing to give a gratuity. Paul has also decided that the Flakes will leave a tip jar out at all of their upcoming Flakes trip remotes.  Do they deserve a tip?  No.  But if a cab driver gets a tip, Mark and Paul figure they can make a few bucks for signing people up for a vacation to Mexico.
