Preparing for Student Walkout
School District 2 has released information on how officials plan to handle local participation in a nationwide student walkout planned to protest school gun violence next week.
The walkout is scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 14, one month after 17 people were killed at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida. The district is planning on participation at all three high schools, and some students from the middle schools. Superintendent Terry Bouck said their top priority is the safety of students, adding it’s important to protect their rights to free speech.
The walkout is expected to last 17 minutes, one minute for each of the lives lost. Students will be informed that they are not to leave school grounds, while teachers are expected to remain in their classrooms for students who are not participating in the walkout.
