Retirement & Unemployment

I have a friend who just got laid off after working for the state of Montana for 27 years and she's a little surprised. Of course, she's been contributing to her 401K and saving as much as she can. But, she's still not ready to retire. Financially or emotionally.

So, here's what I'm thinking about this morning. I'm saving like crazy. I can't get social security for another 13 years, and I'm miles from financial security. Combine that with any incident where you might get suspended or just plain fired.

And I don't know what the stats are for your industry, but for radio announcers, most get fired at the end of their careers. Thanks for your service. Here's a box to put your stuff in. Then, you are escorted out of the building. Don't forget to turn in your keys.
