Changing the current seat belt law to make it a primary offence is wrong.  There is no argument that seat belts save lives, but making laws in order to prevent accidental deaths is frivolous.  We don’t even have a helmet law for motorcycles.

Should we make it mandatory that all adults wear a life jacket when they swim, paddle a canoe or fish in a boat?  A 35mph speed limit on the interstate would save lives too. So would no cigarettes, no buffets, no hiking or skiing, no horseback riding, no football or soccer. It’s just too dangerous and the risk of injury too high.

You can’t legislate accidental death and for those of you that think if it saves just one it’s worth it, well I hope you enjoyed your last hot dog.
