Congratulations to Seth Berglee, the winner of this year’s Billings Top Shot Tournament.  Seth outgunned 31 other contestants to claim the victory.

The tournament began on Saturday at the Blue Creek Sport Shooting Range as 32 contestants each competed in 5 separate challenges. After shooting rifles, pistols, shotguns, bows and throwing tomahawks, the field was narrowed to the Top 20.  Before day one was complete, the 20 finalists competed in a shoot out with pistols and shotguns to set the final 10.

Day two began with an archery skills challenge, which cut the field down to 8. Then, they headed over to the shotgun range to determine the final 5.

Ken Lewis finished in 5th place. For his troubles, he took home a Buck knife and some .22 shells from Shipton’s Big R West.

Robert Kline, Jr. was our 4th place shooter. He ended up trading his prize, a .22 Sig Sauer with the 3rd place contestant, Bob Moran. Bob already had a Remington Legacy Shotgun and Robert already had a bunch of .22′s.

And then, there were two. Seth Berglee and Michael Mule went head to head in an epic final round obstacle course. Seth jumped out to an early lead in the first archery stage. By the time Seth had completed stage 2, the shotgun course, Michael had finally sunk his arrow into the archery target.
Somehow, Michael managed to make up for lost time. He quickly moved through the shotgun stage and had nearly caught up with Seth after the pistol range. Luckily, for Seth, he was able to hit his first shot on the long range rifle course, just as Michael was setting his sights.

For his efforts, Seth received the Top Shot Trophy, a 10 year membership at Blue Creek Sport Shooting Complex, a Ruger rifle from Shipton’s Big R and another reason to convince the voters of District 58 to elect him to the Montana House of Representatives (Seth’s running for office this fall). Meanwhile, Michael took home a new bow, which might help him make up the difference next year, and a one year membership to Blue Creek.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Top Shot tournament. A very special thanks to Mike and Angela Bergman at the Blue Creek Sport Shooting Complex, Andrew Lauckner from Fire Dragon Tactical Shooting, and our great sponsors at Shipton’s Big R West, Holiday Station Stores and Grizzly Gold and Silver. We also want to thank Steve and the crew at Goode’s Bayou Grill for supplying lunch on both days and the gang at the Frankie’s Fistfull Food Truck.

Check back later today for the official Top Shot photo gallery and video from the epic final round challenge.
