As it turns out, the wedding night is not as hot and heavy as you may think.

A new British survey of more than 2,300 people who got married in the last three years has found that most of them did not have sex with their newly betrothed on their wedding night. An astonishing 52% say they kept their zippers in the upright and locked position on their wedding night, with 17% saying they waited (and presumably nearly burst) three days after the ceremony to enter the cathedral of their beloved.

Why wait for consummation? Well, it’s not often that a couple swap vows and then make a beeline for the bedroom. You see, there are these things called receptions which take up a good chunk of the day afterward and therein lies the bulk of the problem: the most popular reason for not getting carnal with your better half is the groom was too drunk. The third-most popular reason was the bride was too drunk.

Sandwiched between those excuses was the bride was too tired (we’ll chalk that up to all the dancing and going around to tables full of people she doesn't know to thank them for coming). Yes, it's lame, but at least "I'd rather drink coffee" didn't make the list -- that would be a cry for help.

Don't feel too bad if you didn't do the deed on your wedding night, though. It'll just give you good practice for the rest of your marriage.
