Our entire office continues on their New Year's resolution health kick. The common theme I keep seeing is a lot of folks drinking a lot of "Green Drink" stuff. Most of which is coming from our friends downstairs at Starbucks or the Odwalla brand. Nothing wrong with wanting to drink and eat healthy, but those things are expensive! Don't waste your money on that stuff when you can make your own at home with this super easy recipe. 

So I'll admit my own efforts at getting into a healthier lifestyle that includes regular exercise and healthy eating is...off to slow start. But at least it's starting! One of the things I have begun doing is trying to have one of these green drinks every morning for breakfast instead of my usual Starbucks iced latte. I found the recipe in the book Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 lbs on Purpose. 

I was a bit worried at first, because the ingredients alone don't sound that good, mostly because I'm not a big vegetable guy. I sucked it up, bought the ingredients, and have been enjoying these smoothies ever since.

 

So here is what you need:

    1/2 of a Banana

    You take a whole banana and you cut it in half. You then take that half a banana and stick it in your blender. With me so far?

    3 Cups of Spinach

    Take three healthy cups of spinach from your supply of said spinach and toss them into your blender.

    2 Tablespoons of Peanut Butter

    Keep it natural!

    You get to add TWO whole tablespoons of delicious peanut butter to this concoction. Try your best to keep it on the natural side, less bad stuff and more good stuff.

    3/4 Cup of Almond Milk

    Yeah milk from almonds, who knew?

    Almond milk isn't nearly as weird and disgusting as you might think. You're going to need 3/4 of a cup for your smoothie, measure it out and pour it in.

    1 Sccop of Whole Body Green

    Vegetables in powder form

    This stuff is recommended by the author of the book I got the recipe from. It's basically an entire day's worth of vegetable goodness in a single scoop of powder. I'm sure it's still probably not as good as eating your vegetables every day but it's a close second.

    Throw a full scoop of this stuff into your blender!

    2 Cups of Ice

    Of course you have ice!

    The recipe calls for 2 cups of ice,or if you're like me, you end up using the giant block that was sitting in my freezer.
