Here’s another reason to tune into the 2012 CMT Music Awards tonight (June 6). Rascal Flatts with get supersized and perform with rock band Journey for the first time ever! That’s quite a shift from their previous collaborator Justin Bieber — with whom they remixed last year — but it’s equally as thrilling.

President Barack Obama and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will appear at tonight’s 2012 CMT Music Awards. Each is part of a comedic pre-taped video that will open the show, much the way the President, John McCain and Hillary Clinton did in 2008.

Last week, the CMT Awards announced the beginnings of a performance lineup for the 2012 show. The original bill was already pretty stellar, as it includes big names like Carrie Underwood and Kenny Chesney on the roster. But the performance schedule got quite a bit sweeter when a few country icons and future country legends joined the ticket.

Dierks Bentley, Willie Nelson, the Civil Wars and Rosanne Cash are all set to perform at the second annual Johnny Cash Music Festival. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, Oct. 5 in the Man in Black’s home state of Arkansas.

Toss back those red solo cups, as Toby Keith has signed on to host the 2012 CMT Music Awards, which will air Wednesday, June 6 at 8PM ET on CMT and at CMT.com. The country superstar will be joined by actress Kristen Bell, who will co-host alongside him. We’re beyond excited to see how well Keith and Bell play off one another.

Congratulations are in order for Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and Blake Shelton. All three country acts have been nominated for 2012 Teen Choice Awards outside of their genre. Swift was nominated in the Choice Female Artist category, where she is up against pop divas like Adele, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry and Rihanna. Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town are two of the latest stars to be added to the nightly concerts that will be held at LP Field during the 2012 CMA Music Festival in Nashville this coming June. Lambert’s slot will occur on night of Thursday, June 7, while Little Big Town has been enlisted to play in the lineup on Saturday, June 9.
