It looks like Marvel may have found its "Mad Titan." As the James Gunn-directed 'Guardians of the Galaxy' continues to bulk up its cast, another lead role has been shelled out, this time to Benicio Del Toro. And based on the preliminary character description, it certainly sounds like he'll be playing Thanos.

Announced by Deadline, Del Toro's part is being kept under wraps, including the name of his part. However, it's described as a leading role that's "built to be part of future Marvel films." Does any name other than Thanos seem likely? We already know that the Infinity Gauntlet-wielding entity is being set up to appear in Joss Whedon's 'Avengers 2,' and although Lee Pace and Michael Rooker's villains will be the primary antagonists for 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' Thanos is the one reportedly pulling their strings.

If our suspicions are correct, do you think he's capable of pulling off the Mad Titan? Thanos is an incredibly powerful being in the Marvel universe known as an Eternal. Obsessed with destruction and armed with the time- and reality-altering Infinity Gauntlet, he's involved in the overarching plan for Phase 2, and, as Marvel's Kevin Fiege suggested, leading into Phase 3.

Del Toro joins a star-studded cast that includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Pace, Rooker, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close. 'Guardians of the Galaxy' will start production in London soon and is set to hit theaters August 1, 2014.
