Today, Mark and Paul got an e-mail from a government employee who wanted to vent about the recent government shutdown.  Even as an "essential" employee, he worries about the constant uncertainty of his job.  He also feels pressure to skip dentist appointments and kids' sporting events in order to remain in the good graces of his bosses.

Paul responded with an unsympathetic "quit your whining".  Everyone who works for a living worries about job security.  And who among us hasn't missed out on a kids activity because they had to work?  We're all in that situation.  The only difference between government employees and the rest of us is we won't be drawing a huge pension until the day we die. We should all be so lucky.
