A lot of my family calls South Carolina home, including my father, sister and two brothers. Luckily, they are all safe from the recent deluge that hit the state. They all live in, or near, Spartanburg, which is about 90 miles from Columbia.

I know there are a lot of folks from Roundup who probably can't stand to see the images on the news after what they went through a few years ago. When the water recedes, there will be thousands of lives to rebuild and many valued possessions washed away.

My family went through a flood in 1977 when I was only 2 years old. My grandparents had to climb into the attic to escape the rising waters and wait to be rescued by boat. My dad was always amazed that out of all of the things my grandmother could have carried with her to be saved, she chose his USMC dress blues. Most of their other sentimental possessions were lost. To this day I still hear people in my family refer to things that were lost in the flood.

Thoughts and prayers to those in South Carolina.
