This morning, the Billings Gazette ran an editorial arguing that the recent Ebola outbreak illustrates why funding should not be cut for national health agencies.  Clearly, they didn't bother to check the statistics, so Paul did their homework for them.

This year, the Centers for Disease Control is budgeted to receive $5.7 Billion. In 2015, that number will rise to $6.6 Billion.  There haven't been any "cuts" to their budget.  And even if their budgets were slashed, it wouldn't help.

The Centers for Disease Control and National Institutes of Health can't control what's happening in West Africa. The problem is that people in Africa aren't being screened for symptoms until they arrive in America.

Sure, when they get off the plane in the United States, we'll check them.   But why aren't we screening every single passenger before they are allowed to board any international flight?

The CDC and the NIH can help prepare hospitals to treat the disease, but they can't keep it from coming here.  And throwing more money at the problem won't make it go away.
