Tyler Farr, ‘Hello Goodbye’ – Song Review

Hello Goodbye
Columbia Nashville

Tyler Farr offers a perspective on the breakup song that country fans haven’t heard in awhile. He’s the one walking away from the girl in ‘Hello Goodbye,’ as opposed to being the broken man trying to solve the puzzle of love gone wrong.

While the story is painful (yet satisfying), it’s Farr’s voice that really surprises. Despite a gruff exterior, he’s proving to be a more than capable crooner. He sounds like a young Vince Gill during the chorus.

So hello suitcase / Hello pictures on the floor / Hello heartache / Hello slamming door / Hello Silverado running in the drive / Hello freedom / Hello goodbye.”

Lyrically, the song is Rascal Flatts‘ ‘Here Comes Goodbye’ from the other person’s perspective. Farr doesn’t sound far removed from living the narrative. There is true pain and just a spit of gravel in his voice as he tries to hold himself together driving away in his pickup truck.

I never knew this gravel drive could be so damn long / And I never thought I’d ever be this close to being gone / I wonder if she wonders if I’ll turn this truck around / I wish I could cause it hurts like hell but it’s too late for that now,” he sings during the second verse.

Oh I did the best to make the best of us / But hell sometimes love just ain’t enough,” Farr adds with exasperation during the bridge.

The ‘Hot Mess’ singer shows range with this ballad. It’s the sort of song that could bring him some much-deserved attention as an aspiring country newcomer with loads of talent and potential.
