Judge Baugh Now Looking to Revise Rape Sentence
At about 2 p.m. this afternoon there was a major development in revising the rape sentence handed down by Judge G. Todd Baugh on Stacey Rambold.Stacey Rambold is a former Billings Senior High teacher. He admitted to raping 14 year old student, Cherice Moralez. The student took her own life just before her 17th birthday.
The announcement received international and national attention because of the reasoning behind Judge Baugh’s decision:
the girl is older than her chronological age.
According to reports the sentence that was handed, down may be illegal! Judge Baugh’s order says:
that the mandatory minimum sentence Rambold should have received is two years, not the 30 day sentence.
Yellowstone County Attorney, Scott Twito said:
The state will review the issue and we will be prepared to be in court on Friday
Even though Stacey Rambold was taken to Montana State Prison on August 29th, he is expected to be returned to Billings for the September 6th hearing.
