Those inconsiderate people who jabber away on their cell phones in public aren’t just annoying — according to a new study, they also slobber more. Sexy!

The study, conducted by the Vidhya Shikshan Prasark Mandal’s Dental College and Research Centre in India, sought to discover whether the parotid glands in the jaw, responsible for saliva-production, are more active in heavy cell phone users.

Turns out, they are. The researchers discovered that people who blather away on their phones all the time have larger parotid glands, with higher levels of blood flow to them. In addition, compared to the control group, those public nuisances produce and secrete a full 26 percent more saliva on the side of their face where they typically hold their cell phones.

The researchers think that the electromagnetic radiation emitted from mobile devices might stimulate the glands’ growth and subsequent saliva production, but they’ll need more tests to know for sure.

Regardless, you might want to break out the Clorox wipes before using someone else’s phone — or put on a rain poncho before that person makes their next call.
