When Telling a Little White Lie is Okay…

Is telling a lie ever okay?  We as parents are always reminding our children that it is not okay to lie and that they should always tell the truth.  Then why as we get older do we think it is okay to tell a “little white lie”?

Oh we make excuses for telling the lie, like well I didn’t want to hurt their feelings, or I thought is was best to not tell them the truth so it didn’t cause problems.

Everyday in my business life and in social settings I hear the endless white lies and wonder to myself, if that were my child would I scold them and remind them that telling the truth is always the right thing to do?

I am constantly telling my children that not telling the whole story is like telling a lie.  If you don’t tell the whole truth, you have lied.

Make no mistake about it, I would admit that I am probably just a guilty as the next person in some sense.

When and why should we give people a pass on telling the dreaded “little white lie”?
