One of country music's most important singer-songwriters paid tribute to one of rock music's most gifted artists in early December, when Willie Nelson performed "Imagine" as part of an all-star tribute to John Lennon.

The slain Beatle would have turned 75 this year, and an all-star roster of performers gathered in his adopted home of New York City in December for a tribute concert that took place in front of the "Imagine" mosaic memorial in Central Park's Strawberry Fields. Nelson offered up a simple, earnest acoustic rendition of "Imagine," one of Lennon's most heartfelt pleas for peace and unity. Check out his performance in the video above.

The 82-year-old country icon was part of a lineup that also included Eric ChurchChris StapletonSheryl Crow, Peter Frampton, Kris Kristofferson, Pat Monahan, Tom Morello, the RootsSteven Tyler and more.

“It’s beautiful to see so many wonderful and talented musicians come together for this special show to celebrate John’s birthday,” Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, says (quote via the Boot). “John’s art continues to give hope, light and happiness to generations of people everywhere. His belief that each of us can change the world continues to inspire the human race to believe in themselves, and his influence is everlasting in everyone’s hearts as we all share in the possibilities and power of music.”
