However, authorities are now advising Montana residents to avoid keeping certain items in their wallets or purses, as it may increase their risk of theft and identity fraud.

Montana Residents Urged to Remove These Items from Wallets Immediately

According to LifeLock, identity theft is on the rise across the U.S., and criminals are using increasingly sophisticated methods, including AI.

But it doesn’t take high-tech tactics for thieves to access your money and personal information: simply carrying the wrong items in your wallet could make you their next target.

Discover reports that millions of people fall victim to identity theft each year, often because of items they unknowingly carry in their wallets. It’s easy to misplace a wallet or forget it somewhere after making a purchase, making it vulnerable to thieves.

And while you can quickly call your bank to cancel a card, some personal information can be more challenging to secure once it’s in the wrong hands.

Authorities encourage Montanans to carry only essential items in their wallets, such as driver’s licenses, credit and debit cards, and health insurance cards.

Officials are advising residents to go through their wallets and remove any of the items listed below to avoid potential problems and protect their personal information.
