What Can I Do To Protect Myself When Air Quality Is So Bad?
From the American Lung Association:
- Spend as little time as possible outside when the air quality is poor, and make sure you're not doing strenuous activity. The longer you're outside, the more strenuous your activity, the more dangerous it is to you.
- You could wear an N95 or KN95 mask to filter out particles in the air.
- Keep your door and windows closed and run your air conditioner on the recirculate setting
- Have a clean room in your home

What Is A Clean Room And How Do I Make One?
From the American Lung Association:
- Choose a room with enough space, and ideally, includes access to a bathroom, without people leaving the space a lot
- Keep all windows and doors closed and sealed. Use towels to close up gaps where smoke may be coming in
- Don't add any other pollutants to the room like candles burning or people smoking or vaping
- Try to stay cool. You can set a fan or your AC to circulate. Do not open windows or use a portable air conditioner.
- Use a portable air cleaner to filter the air or make a DIY air cleaner by attaching a furnace filter to the back of a box fan.
